ADDED THREE SHAWL

            The added three stitches in this shawl pattern modification symbolize the knitter and recipient (side chain that is formed) and the group, church, or organization that is facilitating the gift (center knit stitch that unites all the parts of the shawl). 

 

Instructions:

            Cast on 51 (63) *stitches.  Work in pattern below until shawl has reached correct length.  Cast off in pattern (knit the knits, purl the purls).  Attach tassels.

            (Use 555 yards of yarn with size 11 or 13 needles.)

 

            Row 1 and all odd rows:  With yarn in front, slip the first stitch as if to purl, (K3, P3) 4 (5) times, K1, (K3, P3) 4 (5) times, K1.

            Row 2 and all even rows:  With yarn in front, slip the first stitch as if to purl, (P3, K3) 4 (5) times, P1, (P3, K3) 4 (5) times, K1.
