Basket Weave Pattern

The below pattern is from the book
"Jean Frost Jackets" published by XRX Books, who gave their permission to use it.
Pattern Number 1:
Basket weave pattern: (multiple of 8 plus 2
sts; includes edge sts.) [I used 106 stitches using a size 13 needle.]
Row 1 (WS) K1, p across, end k1.
Row 2 K1, p2, k2, *p6, k2; repeat from *, end p2, k1.
Row 3 K5, *p2, k6; repeat from *, end last repeat k3.
Row 4 Repeat Row 2.
Row 5 Repeat Row 1.
Row 6 K1, *p6, k2; repeat from *, end k1.
Row 7 K1, *p2, k6; repeat from *, end k7.
Row 8 Repeat Row 6.
Jean Frost recommends always starting and ending a row with a k1. That way
it never curls.
