Cast on 75 stitches. Knit 8 rows (garter stitch). Row 9: knit 5 stitches; purl 65
stitches; knit 5 stitches. Rows 10 thru 30: knit/purl stitches (end on a knit row).
Remember to do the garter stitch at the beginning and ending of each row.
Making the cross:
Bottom of the cross: Purl 31 stitches; knit 3 stitches; purl 31 stitches. (Remember
to do the garter stitch at the beginning and end of each row.) Complete 8 rows.
Middle of the cross: Purl 28 stitches; knit 9 stitches; purl 28 stitches. (The 2nd row
begin with knit 28 stitches; purl 9 stitches; knit 28 stitches.) Complete 3 rows.
Top of the cross: Knit 31 stitches; purl 3 stitches; knit 31 stitches for 4 rows.
Reminder: The rows will alternate with either a knit row or a purl row.
Center section of shawl: knit and purl 175 rows ending with a knit row. Remember to
do the garter stitch at the beginning and end of each row.
Making the cross:
Top of the cross: Purl 31 stitches; knit 3 stitches; purl 31 stitches for 4 rows.
Middle of the cross: Purl 28 stitches; knit 9 stitches; purl 28 stitches for 3 rows.
Bottom of the cross: Knit 31 stitches; purl 3 stitches; knit 31 stitches. (Remember
to do the garter stitch at the beginning and end of each row.) Complete 8 rows.
Repeat the beginning rows, knit/purl, 30 rows, beginning and ending with the
garter stitch. Bind off.
Fringe:
Cut 6 pieces of yarn 9 inches long. Using a crochet hook, pull all 6 pieces thru
bottom and tuck ends thru loop and pull tightly.
I use a #5 size needle. This pattern takes 2 skeins of Simply Soft yarn.
